Sector challenges

What's actually hard here.

A decade with masjids means we've shipped against — and solved — most of these. The patterns repeat.

01

Collections still flow through a tin

Cash, contactless terminals, online and standing orders all need to land in one ledger — categorised, receipted and reconciled. iCHARMS gives a masjid a single capture-and-reconcile flow.

02

Members scattered across spreadsheets

Families, addresses, mobile numbers, madrasa enrolment and attendance live in disconnected sheets. iCHARMS holds one record per household with relationships intact.

03

The madrasa runs on paper

Enrolment, attendance, Hifz and Qaida progress, fees and parent updates rarely sit in one system. Maarifa puts the whole maktab online — linked back to the family record.

04

Run by trustees, not IT staff

The software has to be usable by volunteers and trustees, with Friday-appeal screens and live donation tickers that don't depend on fragile third-party iframes.

One platform

What your masjid runs, in one place.

A working mosque is a charity, a school and a community hub at once. iCHARMS holds all of it.

01

Household & member registry

One record per family — adults, children, madrasa students and subscribers — with relationships and shared contact details.

02

Jumu'ah & weekly collections

Cash, card, contactless and standing orders across Jumuah, Iftar and seasonal appeals, all in one categorised ledger.

03

Gift Aid + GASDS to HMRC

HMRC-listed Gift Aid with single-click submission, plus GASDS recovered on small cash and contactless collections.

04

Madrasa & Hifz management

Enrolment, attendance, Hifz/Qaida progress and fee collection for the maktab on Maarifa — linked back to the family record.

05

Eid & Ramadan appeals

Campaign and Friday-appeal pages with live donation tickers that don't depend on fragile third-party iframes.

06

Building-fund pledges

Multi-year construction pledges with payment schedules, donor recognition tiers and milestone disbursements.

Tin and spreadsheets, or one platform

How a masjid runs it, before and after.

Collections
On a tin & spreadsheets: Cash tins, card terminals and standing orders reconciled by hand, weeks later.
On iCHARMS: Every channel lands in one ledger, categorised and reconciled live.
Members
On a tin & spreadsheets: Families scattered across spreadsheets with no shared record.
On iCHARMS: One household record — adults, children, madrasa students — relationships intact.
Building funds
On a tin & spreadsheets: Multi-year pledges tracked in a notebook and rebuilt at year end.
On iCHARMS: Pledges with payment schedules, recognition tiers and milestone disbursements.
Gift Aid
On a tin & spreadsheets: Claims left on the table; GASDS on cash rarely recovered.
On iCHARMS: Gift Aid + GASDS captured and submitted straight to HMRC.
Building funds

Pledges that track themselves.

The platform, in full

Run your masjid like a modern organisation.

A working mosque is a charity, a school and a community hub at once — and most run on cash tins, spreadsheets and goodwill. iCHARMS brings it onto one platform, designed to be run by trustees, not a dedicated IT team.

The platform behind

  • Banbury Madni Masjid
  • Masjid-e-Hussain

Masjids we build and run — collections, Gift Aid and appeals handled end-to-end.

Household records, not donor records

Capture the whole family — adults, children, madrasa students and prayer-times subscribers — with relationships and shared contact details. Weekly Jumu'ah, Iftar and seasonal appeals land in one ledger with a category breakdown and a live trustees' dashboard.

Gift Aid, GASDS and building funds

As an HMRC-listed supplier, iCHARMS lets a masjid claim Gift Aid on declared donations and GASDS on small cash and contactless collections under the threshold, with community-building eligibility tracked per site. Building funds run as multi-year pledges with payment schedules, donor recognition tiers and milestone disbursements.

Reconciled and ready for Xero

Collections, pledges and Gift Aid stay live and reconciled, ready to sync to Xero for a complete set of trustee-ready accounts — no double entry at year end.

Built for the Ramadan & Eid spike

When Ramadan and Eid arrive, the same engine scales with the spike — capture, allocation, receipts and Gift Aid all running on one platform, with a donation portal and Friday appeal pages on top.

Sector FAQ

Questions we hear often.

Does the donation portal capture Gift Aid at checkout?
Yes. A Gift Aid declaration is built into the checkout flow itself, captured against the donation and synced to iCHARMS — so the claim is ready to submit to HMRC with no extra admin. Islamic donation types such as Zakat, Sadaqah and Qurbani are handled as their own funds, with Gift Aid applied only where it is eligible.
What payment methods can a charity donation portal accept?
Our donation portals accept Stripe, PayPal Giving Fund and GoCardless, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay for one-tap mobile giving and Direct Debit for recurring donations. Every donation — one-off, recurring, Zakat, Sadaqah or appeal-specific — flows straight into iCHARMS with its donor, fund and Gift Aid status, and on into Xero for accounting.
What does it mean that iCHARMS is HMRC-listed?
HMRC publishes an official list of software products approved to submit Gift Aid claims via Charities Online. iCHARMS appears on that list, which means HMRC has tested and recognised our submission format. For trustees this is a useful third-party signal of compliance and reduces risk during audits and inspections.
Can a mosque claim Gift Aid and GASDS through iCHARMS?
Yes. iCHARMS is HMRC-listed for Charities Online submission, so a masjid can claim Gift Aid on declared donations and GASDS (the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme) on small cash and contactless collections under the threshold, with community-building eligibility tracked per site. Declarations are stored against the donor record, and claims are generated and submitted directly to HMRC.
What can mosque management software do for a UK masjid?
iCHARMS gives a working masjid a single platform for the things that usually live in spreadsheets and cash tins: a household and member registry, Jumuah and weekly collections across cash, card and standing order, building-fund pledges, Madrasah and programme income, and Gift Aid claims to HMRC. Trustees get one reconciled ledger and trustee-ready reports, and donations can sync to Xero for full accounts.
What is Gift Aid and how does it benefit UK charities?
Gift Aid is a UK government scheme that lets registered charities reclaim 25p of basic-rate tax for every £1 donated by an eligible UK taxpayer. The donor signs a declaration, the charity records it, and HMRC repays the tax via the Charities Online service. Done properly, it can add a quarter to most fundraising income without any extra cost to the donor.
